Imagine a balloon… if you fill it too much, it will grow in size, its walls will be thinner and it will have more risk of bursting, won’t it? Well, that’s what happens in an eye with axial myopia.
There are several types of myopia and the one we can try to stop, thanks to contact lenses and special glasses for it, is axial myopia. This is an excessive growth of the eye as we develop with age, so it is crucial to detect it early and the sooner we detect it the sooner we will prevent it from growing more than normal because it can lead to pathologies such as glaucoma, retinal detachment or myopic maculopathy.
If you have a history of myopia at home, if you notice that your child squints to try to see better far away or that he/she gets too close to objects, or that he/she is not very participative in class and/or in physical activities that require good distance vision, it is important that you come to see us for regular check-ups.
